Recycling in Delaware County

The Delaware County Department of Public Works’ Solid Waste Division operates the Solid Waste Management Center (SWMC)’s Materials Reclamation Facility. Recycling in Delaware County is required by law.

Materials Reclamation Facility

Full service Materials Recovery Facility for your METAL, PLASTIC & GLASS CONTAINERS, CARDBOARD, AND MIXED PAPER. Your recyclables are sold to manufacturers both domestic and international to fully close the recycling loop.

MATERIALS MUST BE SEPARATED.

Recycling Information
Antifreeze and motor oil

ANTIFREEZE, MOTOR OIL AND OIL FILTERS
No Fee

  • 5-gallon limit
  • Gasoline mix or brake fluid NOT accepted
  • Residential “Do-It-Yourself” only
  • Check with attendant for disposal location

BATTERIES- AUTOMOTIVE AND HOUSEHOLD
No Fee

  • Wet cell & dry cell batteries (includes car, motorcycle and boat batteries, 9V, D, C, AA, AAA, button & lantern batteries)
  • Check with attendant for disposal location

No fee

  • MUST be in clear bags
  • Place with garbage for composting

  • Tank MUST be empty & valve stems must be removed
  • Place with scrap metal
  • One pound camp stove tanks can be returned or refilled where they are purchased or brought to specified location at SWMC for recycling.
Wood

WOOD – CLEAN, UNPAINTED, UNTREATED LUMBER, AND LIMBS
$25/ton

  • Ask attendant for drop off location

RECYCLABLES – CLEAN METAL, PLASTIC AND GLASS CONTAINERS
No fee

  • Metal food & beverage containers
  • Aluminum foil, cans, trays, & pans
  • Plastic bottles, jugs, & containers (#1-#7)
  • Glass bottles, jars & containers
  • Please rinse clean, remove lids, and keep loose (no bags, strings or wire)

  • Newspaper, magazines, junk mail, office & computer paper, phone books, paper-based gift paper
  • Please keep loose (no plastic bags, strings, or wire)

RECYCLABLES – CORREGATED CARDBOARD

  • Please remove packing material (Styrofoam, plastic bags, etc.)
  • Please keep loose (no plastic bags, strings, or wire)

REFRIGERATORS AND APPLIANCES
No fee

  • Appliances: recyclable item with scrap metal
  • Refrigerators, freezers, AC units & other Freon containing items handled separately, ask the attendant for disposal location

TIRES – CAR AND TRUCK LESS THAN 24″
No fee

  • No off-the-road tires
  • Please remove rims
  • Subject to space availability
  • No more than 15 per customer per day

ELECTRONICS, TV SETS, COMPUTERS AND MONITORS
No fee

  • Computers, monitors, televisions
  • Other electronics, including peripherals: CD players, cell phones, DVD players, keyboards, laptops, mice, printers, stereos

SCRAP METAL
No fee

  • Remove non-metal portions: wood, fabric, plastic
  • Remove the lids from dry paint cans & other containers
  • Includes: sheet metal, steel, metal cables, empty & dry metal paint cans, aluminum, tin, copper, metal furniture, appliances (except Freon containing appliances), chain, rods, metal pipe & metal pipe fittings
