Camp Shankitunk Urgent Call For Help
Delaware County is fortunate to have one of the best overnight camping experiences for our youth in New York State right here in Delhi at Camp Shankitunk. The 4-H camp offers many opportunities to learn about nature, life-skills and social skills while enjoying fun activities with old and new friends. Camp Shankitunk has become a generational tradition for many families and is once again at full capacity for what promises to be a great summer.
To make sure all camp activities and sessions can be run successfully the Delaware County Cornell Cooperative Extension is seeking qualified individuals that would like the opportunity to be camp counselors. Positions available include cabin counselors and kitchen help.
Cabin counselors live, eat, play, dance, sing, and supervise 8-25 campers (ages 8-16) throughout the summer. They keep close tabs on bunk cleanliness campers’ personal hygiene and mealtime habits to ensure the health and happiness of the kids in their care. To be a cabin counselor you must possess the following qualities: patience, fairness, playfulness, willingness to participate, compassion, and great listening skills. Camp counselors can have a profound impact on the campers they lead. It is a position that demands an incredible responsibility and care and you’ll be on call 24/7. It’s also one of the most rewarding experiences you’ll ever have. Prior experience working with children is a plus! This is a 24/7 on-site position, Sunday-Friday, with sleeping quarters provided in cabins with youth. Meals provided. The salary will range from $1,200-$2,700. Salary is commensurate with experience, certifications, responsibilities, and availability.
The camp is also seeking additional help in the Kitchen as a kitchen aid for any interested individuals. All applications and employment information can be found at the camps website https://campshankitunk.org/staff.
Delaware County encourages anyone seeking a fulfilling summer experience to consider this opportunity and enjoy an amazing Delaware County tradition in the process.
